Martin Wickström Sweden, b. 1957
Martin Wickström is renowned for his skillfully executed photorealist paintings of façades and mountainous landscapes that hold personal relevance to him. He carefully studies the play of light on various surfaces, teasing out myriad nuances and reflections in windows and other glassy surfaces. Wickström is intrigued by unexpected combinations of images: based on intuition, he links together apparently random, unrelated scenes in unlikely pairings.
Wickström ranks among the leading names in Swedish contemporary art. He graduated from the Gerlesborgsskolan Stockholm in 1981 and from Stockholm’s Royal Institute of Art in 1987. His works are found in notable collections including Stockholm’s Moderna Museet, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, Norrköping Art Museum and the Fredrik Roos Nordic collection.
