Jacob Hashimoto b. 1973
Born in Greeley, Colorado | Lives and works in New York City, US
Jacob Hashimoto’s art is a rich tapestry of visual references, ranging from East Asian crafts to Atari circuit boards. His work blends sculpture and painting, combining painterly compositional principles with traditional bamboo and washi paper techniques. Composed of countless small paper kites, his sculptures are not static objects but dynamic forms that subtly move and respond to the surrounding space and light. This interplay, together with a multitude of abstract patterns and carefully orchestrated graphic details, creates a compelling visual experience within his organic, multi-layered spatial tapestries. Hashimoto’s working method is open-ended, allowing him to sample art-historical references, everyday imagery, and disparate narratives within each composition.
Jacob Hashimoto graduated from the Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. Hashimoto has held numerous exhibitions worldwide at venues including the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Governors Island in New York, Turku's Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art, and the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea in Rome. Hashimoto's work is found in prestigious collections such as the LACMA Tacoma Art Museum, the Saastamoinen Foundation, and the Schaufler Foundation.
Galerie Forsblom has been representing Jacob Hashimoto since 2011.
