We are delighted and proud to share that Jacob Hashimoto’s Giant Arc, the most significant work of his career, is now on view at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), USA.
This monumental site-specific installation is composed of 75,000 individually handcrafted paper kites. Transforming the museum’s Roberts Family Gallery and Phyllis Wattis Theater from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, the work creates an immersive environment reminiscent of a dreamlike, floating ecosystem.
Hashimoto’s practice exists at the intersection of craft, sculpture, and painting, blurring the boundaries between these disciplines. His sculptures are not static objects but dynamic forms that subtly move and respond to the surrounding space and light. This interplay, together with a multitude of abstract patterns and carefully orchestrated graphic details, creates a compelling visual experience within his organic, multi-layered spatial tapestries. Hashimoto’s large-scale installations command the space they occupy, inviting viewers to adapt their movement and perception in response to the work.
Jacob Hashimoto: Giant Arc is on view from August 22, 2026 through June 2028.
